Wedges!!

Posted this in the Golf Talk section. Oops, wrong board; so, I will repost here. Hopefully, a number of you guys can assist me out. Thank you in advance.

Ok, guys... I am a novice golfer (just been at it a little over a year). I've enhanced my game by leaps and bounds since when I first began through frequent practice.

However this is my problem. I'm able to get a great drive off of the tee on a par 4 and finish up across the green or in under reasonable PW/9 iron distance, hopefully, being able to reach the green in 2. The dilemma arises when I pull out my PW and go for that shot. (Let it be known that I use a $100 collection of Wal-mart clubs that I bought to see if I like the game; They are Knight I think.)

My chips and shots with my PW are sooooo inconsistent. The majority of the time I am smoking the ball way past and over the green. Is it that my PW isn't the greatest quality, or is it that my game isn't the greatest quality.

The reason I'm asking is that somebody told me that the cheaper PW's are made for 100 yd. full swing shots and not for chipping. Said that if I go purchase and great, used wedge (i.e. cleveland, callaway), I'd enhance my game immediately.

Thanks.

The low, boring 60 degree wedge

I went to the Barclay's this year - it was the 1st time in 3-4 years that I had seen the pros play up close. One shot I noticed many guys playing blew my mind.

Picture about 40-60 yards from the green, fairway lie, I saw Davis Love and Aaron "Dresses" Baddeley hit this shot: they would not just take their highest-lofted club, however open it up no less, yet the shot that came out most likely got no higher than 10-15 feet off the ground. It would hit and stop on a time.

It had the type of trajectory you would expect a 2 iron to have if you used it to play a pitch shot.

How on earth do they hit that? I have read where Tiger says he sets up open and then "turns it over" at impact to hit it low. Can somebody translate?

Thanks

After a little less loft on wedges...

Hi again all.
Obvioulsy im not the greatest golfer on the globe with a 30 handicap however im trying...
I've been constantly getting wayy to much height and a fair bit of grass with both my PW and SW. However, the grass as i've discovered is coming out from infront of the ball which as i'm lead to believe, is a great thing. Immediately, at times i nearly play a flop shot with my PW..It rises 30 or so Metres and drops down 15metres in front of me...
I was wondering whether there was any techniques out there that could assist me out...I'm losing many distance for the reason that of this so am only looking to flatten it out a bit and hence gain the more distance..

I hope you relize..

Thank you in advance

P.S. I've tried tilting the club forward a little to attempt to flatten out the loft of the club however with no outcomes. I think personally that my problem might lie in my swing. Perhaps it's too vertical and therefore im not getting to the entire stage prior to contacting amongst ball...My thoughts anyway..
