Swing Plane

I had a number of recent golf lessons where my instructor mentioned that my swing plane was too flat. He suggested that I lift my arms higher at the peak of the back swing so that the plane of my arms is steeper than my shoulder plane. I have the belief that this is commonly referred to as the 2 plane swing and the majority of modern golf teachers prefer this technique.

Since my lessons I've researched the swing plane and there seems to be 2 schools of the thought. The majority of modern advice seems to concur with my instructor. However, I've come across numerous articles referencing flatter swing planes; in particular those referencing Hogan and Sam Snead both of whom had relatively flat swings and who were giants of the game.

I've a few questions for you technicians out there:-

Why has the flat swing become so unfashionable? If it worked for Hogan and Snead what is wrong with it nowadays? What are the benefits and disadvantages of a flat swing?

stuart appleby downswing plane????

i'm a 13.9 handicap, i tend to come across it sometimes.

when you're swinging the club to the peak of the swing, on the downswing ought to you attempt to retrace the line that you swung the club back on, for example if you there's a circle drawn on the plane ought to you swing up this circle then back down on no different line????

swing plane?

You guys/gals who have not felt the frustration of fat shots or topping the ball in years. Has your swing developed so you are always in an identical plane? The club leveling out at an identical distance off the ground every time no matter what club your using for the reason that of your swing?

I have taken 3 1/2 hr lessons. The first 2 by no different person, she's an older former LPGA female, who I felt she being more my height of 5' 5" could provide me better understanding and self-belief than a 6ft 100+mph guy?

We worked on 3 things. Weak, nuetral, and strong grip, stance and take away.

Two weeks after I felt comfortable and natural amongst hip rotation and club take away I went back. She fine tuned my stance, arms and cocking of wrists. I was feeling pretty confident and creating great contact amongst ball and sending them straight. I may note all this on a practice mat.

The 3rd lesson from an assitant golf pro who I only got the feeling he had other things on his mind than teaching that day also on a practice mat. I did not desire any other lesson other than my swing so it was sort of no different stuff the first 2 lessons were on.

Here is where this is going.

On the mats I had hit them straight. To a point I am becoming capable of my individual distance I am getting with every club. In true surroundings (playing) on grass I am hitting fat or over correcting and topping the ball too much. Even at the range on grass. My 4-7 iron out of 100 balls I caught maybe 20. My drives still under 200 yrds often slicing, and a lot topped where I get an 80 mph ball racing 12 inches off the ground for 100 yards then roll another 50. No they do not climb

More lessons I will get, however I would like to fine tune this dilemma and ask in the forum prior to asking the instructor so I feel she/he knows what I desire and not deviate from it?

thanks
