My Lazy Swing

Gosh darn has my swing gotten terrible lately. I have continued to score well, however it's been a scramble on a weekly basis. I have attached an image. There is a video out there too (32 MB, 5I swing x 2, 7I swing x 2, Driver swing x 2), requires QuickTime 6 or something).

Anyway, allow me blast myself for the heck of it.

Frame 1: Standing a tad too close to the ball. This video was shot slightly right of center, however my alignment is great. Shoulders can be a tiny bit open. Must stand further back and bend at the hips and knees a little. Not much - an inch or 2, max.

Frame 2: Whoa immediately! Taking the club WAY too far to the inside. This is somewhat recent, as I have been attempting to get the club in an improved position at the top (not laid off), however this is clearly not the way to carry out it. Holy cow am I inside. Jeepers! Bad, Erik, bad!!!

Frame 3: Club's still behind me consequencely, of coming too far inside on the takeaway. Shoulder turn nearly complete against a pretty solid base and minimal hip turn. Arms are a bit low, again a result of the poor takeaway.

Frame 4: Here is where the shitty takeaway truly penalizes me. My left hand ought to be over my right shoulder here. Instead, it's below it. Which means, the club has gotten very far around me. The clubface is a tad closed here (not much) and it's pointing down the target line, so that is great, however my hands are way too low. This leads to...

Frame 5: ...the cut swing you see here. My body knows that there is no way I'm able to get my hands to the inside - they are so far behind me, there is no room for them to the inside. So my shoulders turn hard, I come outside-in, and I hit a weak little cut. The shaft plane is essentially okay here - I managed to "save" this particular shot and just hit a tiny little cut, however it's still a terrible position.

Frame 6: Impact looks great, however you're able to view I am still pretty straight. Spine angle matches, however that is about all that looks great here. Weight shift is great. Head has stayed at a constant heights, hands returned to address position, hips are moderately well cleared (though not as much as I would like, again for the reason that my shoulders need to rotate so fast to obtain the club down to the ball). Not bad, not good.

Frame 7: Club way inside again for the reason that I have come over it a little. Not too bad. Nice calf muscle.

Frame 8: Arms did not extend through. I tend to collapse my arms a little when I hit a cut, unlike Vijay Singh, and to extend them truly well when I hit my normal draw. I would rather be a tiny bit more straight-legged here (left leg), however that is pretty nit-picky.

Frame 9: Decent follow-through. Belt facing target, club high and on a great plane.

As I said, on this particular shot, I managed to save it.

I spent many time today getting the club much higher. Higher hands, higher arms. It truly paid off, and surprisingly quickly. Width in the backswing - particularly high hands at the peak of the backswing - is power and gives you room to drop back down to the inside and to come down the line. I hit a bunch of little tiny draws today, my normal shot.

However ugh... these swings, and that video...

I am pretty darn self-taught, and I will go 2 or three weeks prior to I pull out the camera. I desire a powerful swing, not a pretty one, however there is no denying that the camera enables me to see my swing instead of attempting to feel everything.

Apparently, I have gotten very lazy lately. That stupid lazy cut is the result of a terrible backswing, which resulted in a terrible position at the peak of the backswing. I had a number of great scoring rounds like this, however I have not been striking the ball consistently. Pulls, cuts, and weak shots all over.

Dunno if this helps anybody, however talking about it helps me, so... there it's.

Swing Thoughts

A pretty easy question. When you stand over the ball whether it be you drive or a chip shot or a putt.
What are you thinking? 1-2-3 hit? I will kill this little white ball? I have a dilemma with this part of my game. I've a couple self assist golf books and they say you ought to have a pre shot routine. Still I attempt to tug my ear hit my self in the foot with my club prior to each shot and I even now cant locate any type of rhythm? Wondering if any one has an easy prepare for this.

Anyone tried the O-Factor swing?

Someone else tried this swing? I read the article in Golf magazine (I posted the on the internet version above) which reviews the Robert Baker O-Factor swing. I will strongly say I followed it back in April and it had a dramatic effect on improving my golf swing.

Someone else have a go?
