Read more on this topic Developing a repeatable swingI've a question for all you low handicap golfers out there:To what extent do you attribute your reliable swings to natural sporting talent and god given hand-eye coordination? Or alternatively do you primarily attribute it to practice and instruction? Are you generally great at sports requiring great hand eye coordination? Please tell us your story.I will let you know the story of a student of mine we will call Bill. Bill came to me asking for extra distance. He remarked that he had been working on the S&T technique over the previous month after studying the article. Immediately I note that the article aparently has many controversy around it. A number of individuals say it does not at all represent the Plummer & Bennett concept. That is a bit suspect. Why would you place your name on it if it's not your concept? However even the possibility of the editor got ahold of the article and re-wrote it, would not you put something else out there that sets the record straight? I have not seen any press release or such? Anyway getting back to Bill. Bill is obviously staying on his left leg through the entire swing. His hips go back however his head actually moves forward when he takes the club back. His right hip goes back away from the ball and his leg straightens. On the way back to the ball, Bill does a reversal. Head goes back, hips go forward however it's more of a slide. He hits a nice little draw with his 5 iron that goes about 160 yards. I say to him, "Allow me guess, you used to fight a slice, you like this draw, and you have gained about 15 yards amongst S&T....however your back is beginning to hurt is not it?" He says "Absolutely I've fought a slice all my life and I've picked up about 10 yards, however it's not my back, it's my left hip that hurts." "Did you've hip difficulties prior to you took up the S&T?" "No, however I did have back difficulties." I changed his setup to have more axis tilt, fixed his grip, and told him to finish tall on his front leg. He kept his draw, gained 5 more yards, and lost both his back and hip pain. I got a call from him yesterday where he broke 90 for the original time and hit his longest drive of his life at 295. Moral of the story, can the S&T assist you hit it better? Sure...however that does not mean it's the correct way. Read more on this topic Other Golf Related Topics
