![]() Ball spin off driverI recently was at a Ping fitting where they used a Trackman Launch monitor. I went to obtain a driver fitting. They fit me into a Ping G5 Aldila 75s 9 degrees. They used new Pinnacle range balls. Here are the approx numbers.Old Driver: Taylor Made 580xd stock stiff shaft 9.5 degrees loft Ball Speed = 165 Launch Angle = 13.5 degrees Spin Rate = 3558 rpm New Driver: Ping G5 Aldila 75s 9 degrees loft Ball Speed = 165 Launch Angle = 12.8 degrees Spin Rate = 2538 rpm How a lot RPM will a Pro V1x drop versus the Pinnacle range ball? They had me tee the ball high to hit on the top portion of the face. The trajectory was higher than I've been used to however the fitters and great hitters alike claim that a high trajectory is required for maximum distance. What other things can be achieved to reduce the spin rate off the driver? Although there appears to become a difference between the 2 types of balls when struck with an 8-iron from the rough, they also say that Golf Digest testing shows that there's "nearly not difference in driver spin." Is this true? Are we talking about side spin, the spin that causes the hooks and slices that plague the average golfer? That strikes me as surprising given that I'd think that the performance balls (urethane) would have more side spin which would enable the better player to work the ball amongst driver more effortlessly than they would with a surlyn ball.Anybody have any thoughts?
