![]() Question about LESSONSHey guys/gals:Allow me begin by asking all you PGA Pros or instructors out there to NOT take offense at anything I am about to say. I'm just speaking about my personal involvement with 2 instructors, and I would like to get a number of feedback from this community. I have been playing golf since high-school, however mostly nonsense, I was never any great. When I was in college (about 10 years ago...my god am I that old?) I made a decision I sought to play regularly, however I even now sucked so I got my father's K-mart clubs (a driver and 5-iron) cut class and went to the driving range with $100. I hit about a dozen large buckets until I had blisters, however I did get to the point where I'd ALWAYS make contact, and ALWAYS get the ball airborne, which was my just true goal. What I also finished up doing was reinforcing a number of terrible habits, I am absolutely certain. Fast forward to 2000, where I came back to the game. Got myself a number of average equipment (Tommy Armour 845's oversize irons, Tight Lies Woods) and began playing again, sans lessons. Mostly driving range nonsense again, for the reason that I did not desire to create a fool of myself. Began a new job in 2000. No more school, however long hours and shift-work, weekends and holidays, just in my dreams. Golf took a back-seat. 2005-2007, Weekends and holidays off, salary is pretty great so I do not need any overtime, back to golf. I began playing pitch & putt regularly, got pretty great at it, however even now have those fundamental breakdowns that need addressing. Lastly took a number of lessons. Sorry regarding the lengthy intro, only desire to provide you a number of background. First instructor- INFATUATED WITH HIPS. HIP MOTION. HIP MOVEMENT. TWIST YOUR HIPS. TURN. ROTATE YOUR HIPS. DO THIS IN THE SHOWER. TWIST, ROTATE, ETC. ETC. I got kinda sick of it to be honest. He did teach me about letting my arms hang loose, which has stuck with me until this day, however I think I just finished up taking 2 lessons from him. I proceed to gain new clubs, the ones in my WITB (except for the woods, which I only got this season). So one day I am at the range (same place where I took that first lesson) and I hear this other instructor speaking with a guy in the bay next to me. Sounds similar to a knowledgeable guy, (both of them) and the instructor seems very soft-spoken and patient. I eventually get his card and prepare an appointment, which was stellar. I think I in fact got more out of that one hour than I got in YEARS of playing on my own, and he made the other instructor seem similar to a tremendous waste of time. I created another appointment, and again, I felt it was very productive. The instructor likes me, and I listen to him and practice what he tells me to carry out RELIGIOUSLY, METICULOUSLY, OBSESSIVELY. I truly desire to be great at golf, and I've relatively low expectations. I do not have enough time to devote to this game that would let me to shoot in the 70's, however I'm pleased to be an 80's-90's guy (I am a mid-low 90's guy immediately!) I'm able to tell that the instructor knows I am devoted, he is nearly surprised that I retain the detailed facts this well and that I practice so often. Immediately I do not desire to come off as arrogant or complete with myself, however I think I'm a good student. I really adore the game, I've good equipment (like all TERRIBLE golfers LOL) and I'm dedicated to becoming better. Third lesson, I felt we took steps backward. I've specific things I would like to address (which I spoke-up about) and I feel they were nearly ignored. I'm able to understand not wanting to "overwhelm" a student with too much info, however it nearly seems like he is holding out on me, (not that I am on my way to becoming Tiger Woods) however I'm responding well to the instruction, and he knows that once I'm able to hit the ball straight, consistently, that I will not be back for extra lessons. He is not 100 percent wrong- I'm not here to develop into golf god, and like I said, I am happy shooting in 80's and 90's. Perhaps one day my expectations is going to transform, however immediately all I would like to do is hit the ball down the middle, I could care less about distance and carry and roll and angles, I only desire the fundamentals to be pure, and the other stuff will come as it can. Wow that was a mouthful. So my question(s): -Do instructors ever "hold out" in an effort to maintain you coming back? -Is this ethical? -For you instructors out there, are you aware of instructors that do this, or have you done this yourself? -Do you've set curriculum regardless of the skills of the individual? Would you treat me no different as a 14 year of age Tiger Woods, or would you adjust your lessons to the needs of the student? Maybe I am crazy, however like I said, this is my experience and I'd love any and all comments. Thank you in advance. -Andrew Read more on this topic Hogans Five LessonsI heard alot about this guide since i began coming to this forum and alot of individuals seem to like. My question is that when i looked at the preface it was talking further about breaking 80 which i do regularly so would it be worth spending alot of time studying and practicing new fundamentals in the e-book as a high/mid 70s shooter?Read more on this topic What to do when lessons aren't enough.....?I have been playing for about 3 years, have had close to $1,000 worth of lessons over the past 2 years with 4 different instructors. I even now suck at golf. By "suck" I do not mean "oh man I'm able to't break 80 I totally suck" - I mean I am a 36 handicap who shoots in the 110s, has just broken 100 once (98), and has no idea where to turn to begin playing this game respectably.I really adore the game however I'm able to't play 9 holes with no wanting to snap my clubs in 2 after every shot. It's not the short game either. No, I do not have a Tour-quality short game, however I've a great enough short game to become a 15-20 handicap. I simply have NO long game. Tee shots are sliced to kingdom come, fairway shots (if I ever finish up in the fairway, that's) are either hit fat or sliced. Unless most certainly I attempt to hit a 3/5-wood off the deck... then they only finish up getting topped. The point of my post is not to whine about my game (ok, at least not the complete point) - I only do not know where to go from here and need a number of guidance. I only desire to gain the ability to play a round of golf with no wishing I had only stayed home after the 4th hole. Do I must purchase a particular swing teaching aid? Do I must forget about trying to learn to swing the golf club correctly and only begin making compensations (i.e. introducing swing flaws) to correct my other swing flaws? Do I forget about my last instructor and go locate another one and another one and another one? Do I must drive up to the Leadbetter Academy and blow a paycheck on one of their mini-schools? Heck, do I must fly to Vegas and see Butch? I feel like I am so close to the "oh yeah... it all makes sense immediately" point where you suddenly realize what is been wrong the entire time and right away drop 15 strokes and begin experiencing enjoyment, however only cannot get there. I do not mind spending the cash to gain better however I am tired of continuing to pay instructors only to finsh up with no different embarrassing handicap month after month. Is there any hope? What do I do immediately? Read more on this topic Lessons : Good ExperiencesI had the ultimate desire to see what types of things your teacher has done to truly assist you out....besides the lessons. My instructor uses a system called swing viewer and he made me a reproduction of it and gave me a bunch of diverse tour pros videos so I could compare them to mine. He also has given me the unlimited range pass for half cost ($50). I cant let you know the way much being able to watch my swing at your own residence compared to other players has helped me! The $150 I spend a few weeks on the lessons and then the $50 I spend for range balls hurts the wallet a tiny bit, however damn does it sure assist me out alot!Read more on this topic Other Golf Related Topics
