looking for a pro lesson need help deciding?

I've been playing for about 2.5 years just once a few weeks or so, get to the range 1-2 a few weeks. My handicap is still around 30, and immediately I'm prepared to begin putting more time and effort into getting my game on the right track. So my first priority is to obtain the fundamentals down so I'm building on a great foundation. I've searched through the site and found the pga instruction site, however uncertain who to begin with I reside in yorba linda in southern california, I initial saw http://www.blackgoldgolf.com/onlinelessons.asp this awhile ago however never was prepared to put down $110 on a one hour lesson. Here is the link to all the pga golfers listed from the pga site http://dyn.pga.com/improve/locate-an-i...92886&miles=10

First Lesson with Pro

Background

I began playing golf about 6 weeks ago. A buddy of mine invited me to play 18 holes. Never played prior to. Went to the driving range for enjoyment, however never hit balls with any sound form or purpose. So I made a decision to purchase a collection of Adams Tight Lies from Dick's Sporting Goods. Then for the following a fortnight prior to the 18 holes, I read two books and checked out golf tip sites. I formed a grip with the books and off I went. I sliced pretty badly and hit two solid shots. Everything else was skulled, shanked, sliced, or hooked.

Between Immediately and Then

I began to go to the driving range more often and tried to perfect my swing on my own. I hit the ball more consistently and figured out what my difficulties were. Still could not iron them out on my own. Participated in my first pro lesson yesterday. She noticed a slight flaw in my grip, taught me the way to formally address the ball and properly line the club to the ball. Truly good lesson. I ignored my driver and have began to focus on the wedges, and 9/8 irons. So far have been very consistent and can most likely average about 135 yards on my 9 iron.

Flaws

She moved my right thumb off the shaft.
Straightened out my posture.
Clubface to ball directs address of hands at setup.

Questions

How long did it take the majority of you to dominate the driver swing? I'm able to hit the 9/8 irons pretty consistently, however once I touch a 7 iron, my shots begin to vary a lot lot more so. So interesting how much one club makes a difference.

Just had the urge to share my experience and encourage others to take lessons. They assist most. I have already scheduled a second lesson in a fortnight!

My lesson today...

Went and had my first lesson in an extensive period of time today. My wife got it for my birthday. I usually work on my swing by myself amongst aid of a camera, however I'd a great hour with a wonderful pro here.

We spent 1/2 hour inside looking at my swing on tape and analyzing it. For the the majority of part, the majority of his comments were great except for a number of posture issues. I've a slightly flat address and hunched-over angle. While not too severe, he had me stand a tiny bit more upright and receive my weight back on the balls of my feet...it had been more on my toes.

Once he told me what he wanted, I hit one shot amongst changes and we looked at the swing again. I'll need to admit that it looked much better. It felt like I had no angle between my arms and club, however there was. We proceeded outside and hit a number of balls on the range and after fatting a couple, I striped a bunch of 6 irons right on target with a higher ball flight and a slight draw. I normally hit the ball low, so the ball flight change was a welcome sight.

Then he began changing my grip. That is when it was a little uncomforatable. He did tell me not to mix the grip change amongst posture change for the reason that that was too much at once and I definitely agree. My right hand was way too strong (something I knew) and he wanted it more over top of my left hand. I will work on this change later...way too much at once.

Anyway, I got the complete lesson on tape and he went through all the checkpoints with me and I will keep tabs on where I'm in relation to where I ought to be. It'll be interesting how long I stay with it for the reason that I had only began to play a number of very good golf over the previous 3-4 weeks. I do not think the posture changes shall be too drastic, so I am about to slowly incorporate them into my swing. Patience is needed when change is involved. I feel sooooo close to getting my swing right where I desire it. I am about to hit the range this weekend to hit a number of balls. I will post back when a number of outcomes are in.

Finally got a lesson

I have been searching for a golf instructor for a while that I liked and last night ran into one that can very well work out for me. He is a late 50s guy with a swing that looks like the Pros (to me anyway). I hit a bucket of balls first and went in to talk to him afterward and sure enough he had an opening.

He had me hit 5 balls with my 7 iron while he only watched from both sides & the back. Then he began into his lesson attempting to set me straight.

First, my grip, which I thought at least I had that right. My left hand was OK, however I was holding the club too much into the hand on my right hand and also had my thumb too far up on top of the shaft. At full backswing my thumb was pushing the club up instead of letting the wrists cock fully and forcing my hands apart. It also enables me to use a great deal less grip pressure. The grip tip alone was worth the cash I paid.

Then we talked about stance, turns out I have been too bent over, and setup especially how far away from the ball to stand. It makes very much sense, however he only had me assume my stance and let my hands hang free. That is where the grip of the club goes. Duh!

Lastly it turns out my left elbow has been bending completely too much as well. I am about to need to work on keeping my hands away from my body with no getting my arms too tense. That is most likely going to become the hardest habit for me to break. He also wants me to hold my finish for a couple seconds to make certain I am creating a complete turn.

By the finish of the lesson, I was hitting a 7 iron 140 yards with my left arm only barely reaching parallel to the ground. Previously on an ideal full shot I was hitting it 150 yards so I am optimistic about gaining a number of distance also including accuracy from only this one lesson. I am scheduled for an additional on Monday and then I will most likely switch to each other Monday so I'm able to have enough time to absorb the lessons. He says he likes to train beginners 5 lessons and that'll cover all the clubs in the bag and at least get me on the right track.

My advice to beginners is no different as all the other people's: Get a lesson! I have been playing 11 months and it's going to be difficult to break a number of my terrible habits already. Cheers to PGA professional instructors!
