![]() Need help with irons...Okay, so only had a horrible morning at the course yesterday. Although at the driving range I could hit my irons well, at the course all that could go wrong did. When hitting my irons I did 2 key things that I could not correct during the round: - I kept sculling the ball and lifting my head. - I could not get my club under the ball to gain it in the air Basically the majority of my shots were fairly flat. Any techniques to assist me keep my head from popping up to early and to maintain sweeping through the shot?? Read more on this topic I hit my irons a shorter than my 5 year old daughter!!! Help!Granted, I'm a first year golfer and not an incredibly great one at that This golf season has been very frustrating. I began out the year playing much better playing much superior than I'm immediately. I went through a phase where I was playing 3 or 4 times a week. I've gotten so frustrated that I'm immediately playing 1 time a week. I began off driving the ball very straight and very far. That has immediately changed and I slice everything. not a moderate slice, however an EXTREME slice. 1 fairway over at times. I also do a similar thing with my 3-wood from the fairway. My irons/wedges aren't no different problem. I was hitting them very well early on in the year and they got worse as the season progressed. I'd still hit several great shots until the last month, I'm able to't hit ANYTHING. Each iron I swing seems and feels like I swing right under and through the ball, barely hitting it. The ball then goes truly high and truly short and usually pushed to the right. In my head this tells me I'm hitting the ball with an open clubface, though I could be wrong. Only yesterday I went out and played a greatest shot tournament....with my driver, I went to a half-backswing and I hit the ball straight as an arrow and yet great distance. I think once I take the club back too far I cock my wrists and do not get the club back to my starting position. I'll stick with my half swing and continually get further bakc over time to see if that helps. I tried this same approach with my irons to no avail. The simple solution is to say I need lessons, which I'd agree with, however I'm not going to carry out that this late in the season. It is certain to actually be the first thing I do following golf season. I'm only wondering what drills I could do, or techniques to assist any of my faults. With no watching my swing it would be difficult to address, I relize. Only at first glance of the details, what would you suggest? Read more on this topic Irons -getting them off the groundHi Folks,I am pretty new to the forum and greetings to everybody on here, I have lastly began playing golf again rather regular and focussing on the game for the original time in around 8-10 years (I am 24) however used to play as a kid however did not ever take it serious the sport however only for enjoyment however immediately after 2-3 months of playing again and getting back into it and looking and a good way to enhance my game and make vital shots. I just played a round as a last minute plan with a number of friends who were going golfing and me being off I thought sure i will go round with them and hit several shots and made several bad shots and did not score well maybe 124 or so however was hitting a number of great ones at times too and thought "absolutely i like this game" and always enjoyed watching it. So once getting into things, I realised I was hitting alot of my drives to the right and all the things seemed great about them apart from the direction they took and realised that I was standing with my legs wide apart and the ball right in the middle instead of the ball being near the left side of the ankle of the feet and thus has enhanced however I was wondering for several techniques if possible. I am hitting my irons reasonably well and they will often trickle, roll and bounce along the fairway and go rather the distance however I would like to gain the ability to get a number of true height on them, my swing at the moment is a 3/4 swing for Irons and a fullswing for Driver, somehow something does not feel right when I attempt the fullswing on the Irons and i think the shaft/face will move as well often if I tried that, one thing at a time... can anybody assist with that? I was also wondering what type of progress I'm creating? I began playing no different course around 2months ago or so and have been going out 2-3 times a week recently and my first round was 129 on a 72course however recently a week ago I shot a 101 and 104, I am still trying things with my game however mainly my Irons I would love to gain a number of height and I think i would improve, we usually play matchplay amongst ourselves and so far i have beaten one of my buddies and my dad in one-off games however i am only delighted that i have found a game that I relish and hope to practise as much as I'm able to and maybe in a year or so I'm able to have a true go at a Handicap. Cheers for studying kevin Read more on this topic Other Golf Related Topics
