![]() Driver distance vansihedOK so at the start of summer I had only gotten my drive tuned perfectly, it was straight, it was long and I could not have been happier.I'd go to the range and it's 230 to the net and I'd hit about 45% right into the net, no bounce no not a thing, only crushing the ball. I had never had a lesson. Then recently I was watching the golf channel and one of their techniques ruined me, they were talking about tilting back or something, so then I began only falling onto my back foot, popping up the ball and having it just go 200 or so -- rather a bruise on my ego. So I quickly realized that dilemma and tried to revert back to my old swing, however it only is not happening, it is not nearly as far. I am hitting them about 250, when I once would gain the ability to carry them to 230 the majority of the time and finsh up with a 30 to 50 yard roll. The pro came up to me yesterday and said "Matt, one thing I have noticed you have lost is your wrist action, you should whip through amongst wrist -- you are going all arms as of late" I quickly tried to incorporate that however it did not seem natural, however maybe I was only exagerrating my wrists attempting to fix the dilemma. Another thing I have noticed is I've been pulling down with my left shoulder, however I do not think I am hitting down on the ball. When what I once would do was do a lateral shift with my left shoulder and not very much as a pull it down. I've noticed I have not been visualizing sweeping it off the tee, as I have been pulling the club up to soon, and a faster takeaway then normal, however lately it only seems like I'm able to't generate the aged velocity (I am just 18 so it's not arthritis). Read more on this topic Teeing up driver square to the club face?I had the ultimate desire to gain an idea of whether what I have been doing is right. When I tee up my driver, I position my clubface square to the ball. Since my driver has an offset, my hand position is towards my left leg (not in the center of my stance)..I am right handed. Basically when I position my clubface, when it is square, I let it dictate where my hand position ought to be. So far when I swing it goes for me and I am fairly comfortable. Is this the correct way to go? I had an aged duffer at the range tell me to position my hands at center at all times. I found when driving the ball I was pulling my swing b/c I could not clear it properly, resulting in an awful slice. Thoughts? Read more on this topic Hitting Draws-ok with irons, can't do it with driverI tried shaping the ball a year ago on the range only for enjoyment however never wished to have a go on the course. This year I feel like adding it to assist my range. Play alot of courses in the Edmonton area that require different shots. Last course I played theres a monster 550+ par 5 with about 250yds of water down the right side and then starts uphill on the last 250yds. The last 2 times I played that hole I have dunked it in the water. I do not desire to play conservative for the reason that it is such a long and uphill hole. I tend to fade the ball and it is a narrow fairway so there in lies my problem. I am playing that course again sunday. I would like to attempt a draw off the tee next time.Managed to draw my irons today with relative ease. Closed my stance, slightly closed the face of the club and swung through. Practiced slight draws and heavy draws. Seemed to work well. Tried an identical thing amongst driver and could just hit it straight. I think it is for the reason that the driver is longer and harder to manipulate. I need the fundamentals for an simple approach to draw the ball with driver.
