Distance gaps?

I am attempting to solve what's the expected distance gap between irons on full swings. Recently, I have found that my 3, 4, and 5 irons are going basically no different distance. It's most likely for the reason that I am not striking them well, however I was only wondering what if there's a general rule with distance gaps between all irons. Thank you.

Distance Exageration

Is it only me or is anybody else amazed at the exaggerated carry distances claimed on forums?

I'm amazed the extent to which golfers grossly exaggerate the carry distance of their drives and iron shots. Like everybody else who boasts about their carry distances, I'm able to carry a drive 290 yards (nawww!!!!! true distance - 235 yards) and an simple swing on my 7 iron usually carries to about 180 yards (nawww!!!! true distance - 145 yards).

If It allowed me to consistently drive 290 yards I would be hitting the ball as far as Paul Lawrie the 1999 Open Champion or Sergio Garcia. Obviously I do not and I doubt that the majority of the "fantasy merchants" who claim these distances do either.

Anybody else got an opinion on this?

Determining club distance

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has any advice on the greatest technique to determine the distance you hit the ball using every club (i.e., club yardage/distance).

1. I have always thought regarding the total distance (carry + roll) for every club. However, I heard a golf pro (on the golf channel) mention that the just stat you ought to know is the carry distance. Do you believe this is right? I'd think that you ought to know *both*.

2. What is the greatest technique to determine the carry distance? I have been going to the range and attempting to "guestimate" the distance based on a group of shots (I hit 10-12 shots and ignore the 2 greatest and 2 worst). However, when I go to the course to play, I locate that the distances (based on the range) aren't correct (either too short, or too long). Somebody told me that the dilemma is that the range uses different balls (i.e., made to last, not perform) and are "dead". This person suggested that I add 10-15 yards for every club.

However, another person said to ignore entirely the driving range outcomes for the reason that the yardage markers ought to not be trusted. Instead, the distances ought to be determined based on actual course play (however, that assumes you're able to aquire accurate readings based on sprinkler heads, etc). I suppose the new laser range finders (or even GPS devices like the Skycaddie would be very useful).

Lastly, one other person suggested making use of a launch monitor to determine distances. Can you use these for things other than driver/woods? I am uncertain if the cost would be worth it.

I understand that golf pros have privilege uses to driving ranges and practice using their actual ball and have privilege uses to a wonderful number of other aids. What ought to amateurs use?

Any suggestions would be very useful. I would love to hear what individuals think.

Hans.
