Help Please...

Hello all... this is my first post. I intend not to make it my last! I'd like to give you appreciation all in advance for any assist you are able to provide.

Anyways on to my problem. I've been playing golf for a little over 2 years. A year ago I joined my D3 college golf team. At the time, the team was truly loose and the coach did not care at all. This year things changed. We got a new coach who knows about coaching, however little regarding the golf swing. I worked my way from 10th on the team to 7th. A week ago 2 members ranked lower than me got kicked off the team and I went to my first tournament ever last weekend spare of the moment. Things did not go well at all (not to mention we played all D1 teams and the guy I played with shot a 69). I got off the tee very well... with a buddy's nike driver I had never hit prior to (I cracked the head of my Taylor Made 510 a couple days ago and am trying to obtain the waranty honored.) Unfortunately, my irons were the culprit. I've been hitting them long and straight recently, however while playing in the tournament, my usual difficulties came out in full. My difficulties include a tendency to hit the ball fat, (which I fixed by focusing on my weight transition), however what I've not been able to fix for good is the tendency for my ball to go right and short especially with longer irons. Recently I've been attempting to keep my left arm straight and creating certain that my club is square at impact, however it doesn't work at all times. If you all could provide any techniques on the secret to keeping this dilemma from arrising in the future, I'd be the majority of appreciative. All I desire is to swing "right" and have a consistant, dependable swing that I'm able to trust so I do not embarass myself in tournaments. Any advice/drills to assist me with my difficulties would be vastly appreciated. I only bought new irons (mizuno mp-32's w/stiff shafts) and love them to death. (I feel truly confident with them if that helps with all) Thank you once more!

keeping the club in front

Lately I've been hitting the ball all around the place and I could use a number of advice. I'm a former competitve golfer (hs and college) and my previous several rounds have been (46-35 (1 under on back)), 44-38.

observations:

^divots go from open to closed
^fell jammed through the hitting area, open and moving back or away from the ball (ball fade - thin).
^ball rolls up face sometimes on irons sometimes and I come up short
^divots point left

In previous time I've constantly stuggled with being too upright and steep causing pulls.

I'd assume that "flipping" causes the open-close divot and I'm getting the club stuck behind me and my spine angle posture need work.

Any techniques or drills?

Goodbye long ball.

At 5'11" and 160 lbs I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to become the longest guy off the tee. I will hit a 300-yarder down the pipe about once a round, after that I will be all around the place, and as we all know, all around the place ain't a resonable location in this game.

After Justin Leonard's win a week ago,TGC aired a number of stats on his week. 278.xx yards off the tee which was way down on the stat chart, however first in fairways hit. If Justin can win a PGA tour event as a brief guy, why should not I adapt my game to that way too. Or at least provide it an attempt...

Another tip I am using I discovered from Davis Love III. He mentioned, once upon a time, that he typically will just use 80% of his swing when hitting drives with the aim to assure solid contact and accuracy.

So yesterday I went out for a fast nine and hit all however one fairway, which I used a 4-iron off the tee. However of the holes I used driver or 3-wood, right down the middle! Yippee.
