Power focus

I left golf alone for the better part of 5 months due to external factors, and just took it up again about a fortnight ago. I am a 18 handicap, and went playing with a number of guys in the single digits the past weekend. They all complimented me on my swing, while I felt like I'd a shovel in my hand, 2 left hands and an awful case of Parkinson's

I think this has to carry out with my tempo and rythm. I noticed my swing starts off too fast, and the majority of my power is generated very early in my downswing. This has the effect of loss of power and control as the clubhead reaches the ball. I immediately attempt slowing down the early part of my downswing, and accelerating right prior to contact. Am I doing the right thing? Is this what you guys always mean with "accelerating through the ball" ? Any thoughts/drills on this topic?

One great thing about leaving the game alone for a while, is that I seem to have dropped a number of terrible habits I picked up. However I am looking ahead to developing a whole bag of new ones!

Prescription For Beginners

The combination of these 4 video's in this purchase is what I recommend for all beginners of Golf. It starts using your grip, your setup, your finish, and the walk through drill. For a lot of you, you've most likely already seen these video's however it's the foundation of my beginners instruction (aside from equipment evaluation).

If you know any beginners, I greatly suggest you show them these things to gain them began. It would also be a great refresher course for those of you who've began to loose your swing.

The Walk Through Drill - http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...85947466&hl=en

Again, these are the basic steps I take all my beginners through.

Only as an example, there was a heavy set lady I met on the range who was waiting for her husband to gain done playing last weekend. It was her first time ever picking up a collection of clubs and she only got them for Christmas.

I took her through these easy four things in literally 15 minutes. In under another 15 minutes after that she was hitting her pitching wedge over 100 yards with ease and control.

Excellent site for instruction! (For One Planers)

Since I have began studying regarding the One Plane swing I have been fascinated with it and I only stumbled onto an excellent site.

http://www.oneplanegolfswing.com is LOADED with good info. Actually, somebody had video of Tiger swinging at Hank Haney's ranch and they analyzed it and it is excellent. Here is a link to it:

I did not realize how important it was to fan the club open (pronation of the forums) so early in the swing to maintain it on plane. Jim Hardy talks about rotating the forums in the backswing however he never emphasized how early you should do it. It's definitely necessary with the aim to keep the swing on plane amongst shaft angle at address.

Have a look at it!
